16GB USB Flash Memory Quick Tips
Virus on USB Flash Drive/ Memory Stick?
Hey. I just got a 16gb memory stick from eBay for a tenner. The seller had 99.5% positive feedback, so I didn't bother reading any of the feedback. However, when the seller took too long to post the item, I checked to see if anyone else had had the same problem. Most of the negative feedback claimed that there had been malware on the flash drive.
I've done a virus scan with AVG Free (and found nothing) and formatted the drive just to be safe. Is this enough to remove ALL viruses? Does it sound like the drive is safe? Also, if there was a hidden virus before I formatted, what are the odds that my PC is now infected?
I haven't had much experiences with viruses, so any help/info will be appreciated.
Thanks for any helpful answers!
You have done all the right things. Once you have formatted a drive, new or used, you can be 99.9% sure that it is clean and virus free. Especially on flash drives, there are no places for nasty things to hide.

As you provide your personal and financial information for your online transactions with banks, companies and organizations, miscreants get access to this information and misuse them for personal gains. Even offline, many people are careless enough to share their sensitive information with others and get into trouble.
It is possible to take a few precautions in order to protect yourself from becoming a victim of identity theft.
When you are typing your personal or financial information such as PIN number or credit card number on the computer or at the ATM machine, be sure no one is peering at it from behind. If you are in the habit of throwing out your junk mail, medical statements, ATM or old credit card receipts, credit card statements or bills, ensure you clear the trash regularly. It is not a good idea leaving too much sensitive information lying around.
If you are selling your laptop or personal computer system, ensure you clear and destroy all the digital data from the hard drive. It is not enough to reformat the data. It is essential using certain potent products available in the market to completely and irrevocably destroy data.
Check your bank and credit card statements with care to notice and report any discrepancies and suspicious activities. Identity theft is also rampant on the internet. If you are shopping online, it is highly recommended to select reliable sites to ensure safety of sensitive information such as credit card number.
