Naturally, a desktop computer is faster, expandable, and less expensive than a notebook. But you cannot take it with you! Well, you could, but by hauling that desktop computer around you'd look like a real dork. But then, it's impossible to appear like a dork with a notebook. Seriously, you want a notebook for one of the following reasons:
- 1. As your primary computer. Why dither over saving cash with a desktop when you really need the portability of a notebook? A desktop cannot pretend to be a notebook, but a notebook can certainly fake being a desktop computer: You can use a full-sized monitor and keyboard with your notebook. It can also support any number of regular desktop peripherals such as an external hard drive, printer, scanner and so on. But, unlike a desktop computer, you're free to unplug the laptop easily.
- As a space-saving computing system. Unlike desktop computers, you don't have to build a holy shrine to your notebook - that is, you don't need a specialized computer desk. If space is tight in your dorm room, apartment, or house, keep the notebook on the drawer or in a shelf. Then set it up on the coffee table or kitchen table when you're ready to do your work. Forget about the clutter and mess that orbits the normal desktop computer table.
- As a second computer. Why purchase a second desktop when you can get a notebook and enjoy not only the availability of a second computer but the ability to make that computing device portable? Further, you can connect the two computers together, permitting them to share the printer, Internet connection, as well as files and data.
- As your mobile computer. Notebooks let you take your work everywhere. After a few moments of synchronization, you're off and going to anywhere you want (though being in bright sunshine can make it hard to see the notebook screen).
When you get back from your "road warrior" day, you perform another synchronization process, and both computers have equal information content.Notebooks let you escape the limitations of your office and do your work anywhere you want for a few hours each day. Or if there is power outlet nearby, you can plug in and work as long as you want. The notebook lets you take your present work and obligations with you when you are traveling.
