How much memory on a Macbook?

here, it says the macbook had 4GB of memory. but i have 49.88GB of itunes songs. i don't understand how this works, how do you define memory? as it says the hard drive has 500GB. what is the difference?
Hard drives are not "memory". They are just repositories (like a tape recorder) or all the stuff that is stored on your computer. Before the computer can use this information it must be transferred from storage (hard disk) to computer memory (4GB in your case). Computer memory can manipulate data at high speed, at least in part because it is completely solid state (memory chips). This is a highly simplified explanation but perhaps it will be of some help.
