Do I need another motherboard or harddrive?
I built a computer system for my bf but I am puzzled right as to what the problem is. He has a BIOStar Socket 754 motherboard with a AMD Athlon 3700+ CPU and 1 GB or DDR. The computer sometimes does not boot up. (Sometimes it goes to the Log In screen but doesnt show any Users, its just a blank screen; then when it does boot up...my bf would burn movies and it would freeze up on him...he has to restart it. So I thought it was the hard drive I have a SATA HDD. I bought it refurbished. SO we went to Best Buy and bought another HDD. Seagate 200GB. I tried reinstalling windows on the old SATA HDD but it gets to the blue screen and says "please wait" and freezes there. I then tried installing it on the new HDD. It freezes at the BIOStar logo or freezes after it does the system check. It doesn't even pick up the windows xp cd anymore.

sounds like a motherboard problem, what ya may have is a crack in it that you cant see, when the board gets warm it expands and opens the gap causing the system to crash. you did good triage already by checking with another hdd, but the keywords that tipped its hand was refurbished,and that the system was worse after it had been running,which meant it was warm. since it expands when warm, the crack opened and it caused your system to crash

So which motherboard do you choose out of the five? Well, if you want extreme performance and screamingly fast speed, then you'll certainly want to get the ASUS A8N-SLI. For those looking for a better price, I'd say the MSI K7N2G-ILSR and Chaintech SK8T800 are good choices. However, its always best to do your homework.
