i am considering getting a mac mini, but do i need to get an apple router or will my speedtouch work fine?
The router that you own should do the trick. An Airport would be really easy to configure, but a regular router should be OK.
But a Mac Mini? That is a total waste of money with no future of expandability. You really should get a real Mac. You might save some money by going with an iMac.

You might say, "I've GOT a Monitor", but the Mini mac is just too limited. I think that a better name for it would be HALF-MAC. It's half as fast. It will take HALF of the RAM. It will have HALF the hard drive space and totally lack what your really want in a computer. That's that MAC that makes WINDOWS look good!
