does the asus eee pc have a cd drive??
i want to buy one of these laptops (Asus Eee PC 2GB Black - EEEPC2GS-BK004) its only 250 euro
i only really need it for typing etc. so don't need a lot of memorydoes this laptop have a cd drive? a floppy disk drive? any major drawbacks i should be aware of?
thanksI've owned a EEE PC 4G since November of last year and I can tell you that it does not have a CD drive. It is physically impossible - there is simply no space. There are some drawbacks sure, but I prefer it without a CD drive - it extends the battery life and makes the EEE PC quiet. There is instead - 3 usb ports, one mmc/sd/sdhc card reader, an ethernet port, a VGA port, built in microphone, and a Kensington lock slot. The 2G does not have a camera, the RAM is soldered to the motherboard (therefore not upgradeable), and the battery rating is 4400 mAh - about 2.8 hrs. (the 4G that I own has a 5200 mAh battery - 3.5 hrs)

Let us have a look at the the Eee PC 1000HE - the first mini laptops available to use the new N280 version of Intel's Atom processor.
Like many other Netbooks, it has 1GB of memory, a 160GB hard drive and runs Microsoft's Windows XP Home Edition. The difference is in the processor. It has the newer 1.66GHz N280 version of the Atom. The other notable feature of the Eee PC 1000HE is its keyboard - large, well-spaced keys almost as large as those on a standard keyboard.
Asus has equipped the system with a standard array of ports. To the left is an Ethernet and USB port plus audio jack sockets, as well as a slot for a security cable. The right side has two further USB ports, a VGA output for an external monitor, and a slot for SD Card Flash storage.
The system has 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for wireless communications, but no option for a 3G modem for go-anywhere connectivity, as there is on some other netbooks. A 1.3-megapixel camera is fitted above the screen for web conferencing.
Asus includes several of its own utilities, such as the Asus Update to download and install updates for the system's Bios, Eee Instant Key, which drives the hotkey functions such as turning wireless on/off and controlling the display brightness, and the Super Hybrid Engine power management tool.
There is also a pre-boot environment accessed by hitting F9 during boot up that reverts the system to its factory state, in case Windows becomes corrupted.
Given the price of very affordable processor, this pc is expected to bring the computer in the reach of more people and will bridge the wide digital divide that exists so far.
Here in my closing I declared Asus contribution in shape of perfect Laptop to serve its valuable users. Product load by N280 version of Intel's Atom processor and some other strong features increase the market worth of Asus products and on the other side high speed of performance of this product save valuable time of the user.
