The Dell Studio 17 laptop has powerful hardware, Intel Core 2 Duo processor and ATI graphics card with large memory. A nice surprise is this notebook is available in a range of designs and colors which include striking green, pink or orange, making it stand out from its counterparts. Despite the Dell Studio 17 being a heavy weight, it is stable and easily picked up at its front edge. It is loaded with ports and connections, but all in the right places, none at the front making it easy on the eye.Ports include:
o lock
o digital HDMI port, allowing transmission of digital video data to its high-resolution screen.
o two USB ports
o additional USB port
o Lan port
o Fire Wire port
o Express Card slot
o eight-in-one memory card reader
o external USB RJ45 modem jack for dial-up
o SD card reader.
o audio ports for connection of two headphone and a microphone
o Central slot-in DVD drive (replaceable with a Blu-Ray combo drive)
o Two further USB ports; and of course the
o power connectorThis laptop comes with a two-year next business day parts and labor warranty. It is one most cost-effective notebooks considering its range of available customization. The gaming capability of the Dell Studio 17 is not great. More graphic card options instead of only the incorporated Intel X3100 and ATI Radeon HD 3650 would have been preferable. The absence of VGA cable screw ports, built-in docking station connector, and simple RAM expansion may be a disappointment to potential buyers, however this laptop makes up for these things with many other great features (excepting integrated television), such as:
o Fast dual core processor
o Vibrant color high resolution display
o Enormous hard drive
o Dock interface
o Webcam software.ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650: This is a graphics card which falls in the average bracket, but due to the Avivo video engine, this card is supportive of the processor having several video operations complete with HD video as well. These cards can display most games. The high-density games such as 'Mass Effect' or 'Age of Conan' can only be played with low settings. Older games like 'Command & Conquer 3' or 'Battlefield' must be played at high settings.
Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 2.4 GHz: The Core Duo and Core Solo combination is 5-20% speedier, without additional power consumption. A fourth decoder has been installed with amplified SSE unit and additional arithmetical logical unit (ALU). You may prefer to see the Dell Studio 17 as well-designed and solidly built - or bulky and heavy, depending on the way you look at it.
