Style

Whether you choose the 14.1" screen or the 15.4" widescreen version of the Inspiron 1501, you have a good-looking machine that holds its own alongside any competitors at the local coffee shop!

The DVD drive fits neatly under the keyboard and the various connection ports are well-placed and unobtrusive. These include four USB 2.0 ports and a 3-in-1 media card reader, aside from the usual audio, video, Ethernet and modem ports.

At the front of the base are two integral curving speakers with HAD (High Definition Audio) as standard. Alternatively, you can plug in headphones for privacy - or speakers for enhanced sound quality at your desk.

Space-Saving performance

Saving space is the purpose of a laptop, however, and the Inspiron 1501 manages this without sacrificing quality and features.

The processors are from AMD's mobile range and include both single-core and dual-core technology. The dual-core AMD TurionTM 64 X2 enables you to do more without compromising performance.

But the extra capability is not achieved at the expense of the battery life. In fact, the AMD PowerNowTM technology that is standard for the AMD processor Inspiron notebooks extends battery life beyond the limit for previous models.

The video (or graphics) card is a 256MB ATI® Radeon® Xpress 1150 HyperMemoryTM. This comfortably handles desktop publishing and casual gaming.

The RAM (Random Access Memory) is drawn from the latest DDR2 dual channel innovations and at 1024MB allows your programmes to run smoothly.

Data storage comes as either an 80GB or 120GB hard drive. These are enough for most general computing uses but it is always possible to attach an external hard drive to one of the USB ports and create extra capacity. You can also store data by burning a CD or DVD on the optical drive.

All of the foregoing is held together by the operating system, in this case Windows Vista® Home Basic. If this doesn't give you all you need, of course, you can ask Dell for an upgrade to Windows Vista® Home Premium or Ultimate with their more advanced home entertainment features.

Mobile communication

The Inspiron 1501 is all set for wireless communication. But what if you wish to check your emails or surf the net away from home?

Dell's solution is its partnership with leading mobile phone companies. By joining HyperConnectTM, you can access your emails, download complex attachments and connect to the internet using your Inspiron 1501. And for many, the mobility and freedom this offers is what a laptop is all about
