This particular EVGA GeForce 9800 GT video card came in the mail the other day. This card was very easy to install thanks to its size. It is much smaller in dimension rather than the last set of GeForce video cards and technology advancement has given us more speed than the previous generation.
The monitor hooked up to this video card only supports up to 1600 by 1200 resolution, however we have yet to find many games to throw at this video card that manages to constrain it and under perform. Left For Dead dishes out nothing under 50 frames per second while at 1600 by 1200 resolution with every setting completely on high.
The video card operates very cool & only fills up the space of one slot. The airflow from the fan & heat sink is not blocked by nearby motherboard components. This setup runs just about anything you throw at it even in the PCI-Express 1.0 slot. We are running in this computer a EVGA 680i motherboard from a few years back.
If you are expecting to upgrade an older computer and really get some much needed power out of it this video card definitely would get a thumbs up from me. Just about any video game out right now can have their settings on high with this card if your computer has some quality components inside it like enough RAM and so on. However even if you run across some games that you cannot set max settings on the game will most likely still perform and look within reasonable expectations.
While this card only takes up one slot we are fortunate for, I would definitely suggest not putting anything in to a slot next to it as it would most likely restrain air flow that is needed to perform appropriately. We do not want to reduce air flow when at all avoidable. And you should not want to neither.
This video card just about like any other will come with drivers included on a CD that will be out of date but most people who are buying a video card that have done so before know this and will look on the Internet for the latest drivers.
While not testing computer components I do enjoy a cup of java made with a French Coffee Press.
