Extreme Motherboards Q and A's
Does the creative x-fi extreme gamer sound card work ok with an Asus pk5 premium wi fi motherboard?
I am thinking of buying this soundcard but ive read it got a lot of issues with some chipsets,i think nvidia chipsets,i am running vista 32bit,anyone using this card with the same motherboard?
hi tony
yes,the creative x-fi extreme gamer sound card uses the standard 32bit pci card slot and the asus pk5 has 3 pci slots, however you may experience problems if you use the two pci-express x16 slots that this motherboard supports
for example some of the high end graphic cards like the 8800gtx and HD3850 are quite large and can use part of the neighbouring pci slot, however the best slot to use is the end slot near the usb headers
you can find various topics on the x-fi extreme gamer at http://support.creative.com/Products/ProductDetails.aspx?catID=209&CatName=X-Fi&subCatID=669&subCatName=Sound%20Blaster&prodID=15853&prodName=X-Fi+XtremeGamer,and the creative knowledge base at http://support.creative.com/kb/ has many issues solved !
also you will find the Sound Blaster X-Fi - Troubleshooting FAQ at http://support.creative.com/kb/ShowArticle.aspx?sid=11040 very helpful
however from experience the asus pk5 has no issues with the creative x-fi extreme gamer

Articles and News With References to Extreme Motherboards
One of the major problems that the PlayStation is plagued with is one known as the YLOD, or the Yellow Light of Death. This problem has something to do with the hardware and is caused by cracked soldering material that has been destroyed due to extreme heat or cold conditions where the PlayStation is kept. Now, this is a problem that can be well prevented but for many hardcore gamers, overheating is the most prevalent cause because they can't stop using the device. The good news is that even I as a gamer and not an experienced technician can fix yellow light on my PS3.
Can't you just send it to Sony for repairs?
One of the best options for this major problem is to send it over to the guys who designed the unit to begin with. Of course, they will most likely offer you a new unit if you are under warranty. But the worst case scenario is that they will replace the motherboard that has been affected by the soldering problem and this means that I can be charged for that replacement. This means that I will have to fork over so much money that I could have saved. Since I can fix yellow light on my PS3, sending it in for repairs is the last thing on my mind and this should be the same for you as well if you are experiencing PS3 YLOD.
How can you repair your PS3 by yourself?:
I admit that I do not have the technical know-how to just open the PS3 unit and start tinkering with things I do not even know about in the first place. But the great thing is that there are great information resources on the Internet that I can use so that I can learn to fix yellow light on my PS3. This means that if I read and learn the different and less invasive ways to fix my PS3, I can save a whole lot of money and I don't have to wait for long to go back to using my trusty console again.
If you are unfortunate enough to need to fix the yellow light on PS3, I would recommend you first try to repair it yourself with the help of a PS3 repair guide, they are pretty cheap and effective. The best part is your PS3 will be repaired within a few hours instead of the weeks of waiting required by sending you console to the manufacturer.
